Our test prep can be completely individualized.
The most successful way to prepare students for the test is to systematically break down each section into manageable subtexts. Each skill is introduced, taught, and reinforced. As students obtain mastery of each section, we then introduce the SAT exam as a complete unit.
Whether enrolled in our SAT one-on-one tutoring or small group courses, our  students will learn the exact skills and strategies they need, in the way they need to learn them. we are successful at raising students scores because we know the test and we know the student.

We provide students with the tools and tricks to maximize their SAT scores.
Although one-on-one tutoring may be most effective, we can work with groups of up to four students, provided that the students and their families all know one another (e.g., a homeschooling group, or students who attend the same school, house of worship, etc.)  The cost per student decreases with each additional student in the session.  It is very important that the students in the group all be on about the same level and ability, and that they are capable of working well together, and being supportive of one another.

If you are several grades below grade level.  which is extremely common, we must first bring you up to grade level, or close, before we can tackle problems on grade level.  This can go very quickly if you are willing to work hard, but it is certainly not something that can be accomplished within one or two sessions.  Almost all of the trouble that students have is due to the fact that they do not fully understand all of the previous topics upon which the current topic is based, and they are either unwilling, or do not have the time to go back and fill in the gaps.

The point of the tutoring session is not just to “show” you how to do a particular problem so that you’ll forget the moment you walk out the door.  The point is to get you to fully understand the problem and the thought process behind it, so that if you see something related to it on an exam, you will immediately know what to do..

Small group tutoring includes but is not limited to:
  • Comprehensive Plan of Action
  • Interactive Practice Tests
  • Test-taking Skills and Strategies
  • Problem-solving Techniques
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Pacing and Ordering Strategies
  • Number and Operations
  • Geometry
  • Advanced Algebra
  • Critical Reading
  • Vocabulary
  • Sentence Completions
  • Essay Writing
  • Grammar and Usage
  • Test-taking Confidence
Sometimes college students need help too! As our tutors tend to be college students, it is worth asking if a college course is giving you or someone you know a hard time. You'll never know if we have a good fit until you ask.

Policies

AT HOME TUTORING LA offers (minimum) 60 minute tutoring sessions.  Our experience has been that this is the optimal length of time for a session. If you require a tutor for 75 minutes or longer, please make sure that the session is booked that way in advance. Most tutors give themselves just enough time to get to the next session.

COST PER SESSION / CANCELLATIONS:  Please call or email for the current rates per hour..Tutoring cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the appointment time to avoid being charged for a missed session. This is necessary to allow time to arrange another assignment for our tutors. Should a student miss a session without canceling 24 hours in advance, he/she will be billed for the missed session.  This will be noted as a “late cancel” on your statement.

PAYMENT: At Home Tutoring LA will bill the client via PayPal.  Your invoice will come via email, and you can pay with a credit card or with your paypal account.  At Home Tutoring will hold back tutors when their is an outstanding invoice.

If a tutor must cancel a session, we will contact you concerning whether or not you would like to reschedule the session, request a substitute tutor, or cancel the scheduled session. You will not be charged should you decide to cancel the session.
Lateness will cut into your session time. Students who cancel without notice and without payment will be dropped from our schedule, as will students who cancel with notice very frequently. Students who would like to schedule regular weekly or semi-weekly sessions will be given priority.
LAST-MINUTE CRASH TUTORING (a.k.a, "Help! I'm in Trouble!"):  It is very important that you prepare for exams such as course finals or the SAT far in advance, and plan to take ongoing sessions. If you have left your studying to the last minute, you can have an honest discussion with your tutor about what is possible.

PREPARATION FOR A SESSION:  If you let your tutor know in advance via e-mail what topics you would like to work on during the next session, he/she might  prepare material such as summary sheets, study guides, and practice exercises for the topic.  If you let them know in advance what aspects of the topic you are finding most confusing, we can use that information to prepare material that will help to clarify matters.  This will save time during the session which you can use to work on the topic.  It is helpful if the session has a predetermined focus.
REFERRAL BONUSES:  If a client refers another client to us, and that client takes at least 3 paid sessions, the referring client will receive a free session.
